In 2024, there were nearly 200,000 gas stations across the United States. There were 7,539 within Virginia. The jurisdictions with the largest number of people had the largest number of gas stations:1
Fairfax County: 408
City of Virginia Beach: 269
Henrico County: 225
Prince William County: 208

At the end of 2016, Virginia had 859 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports at 358 locations, not counting private stations (such as an individual's home). That number climbed by the end of 2020 to 2,178 ports at 711 stations At the end of 2024, there were 4,892 ports at 1,758 locations. 2
